Blog inspiration: Find it in your playlist

Trying to attract more people to your blog but facing writer’s block, or worse can’t think of what to write about? Consider turning to your iTunes play list for a little inspiration.

I was on a flight back from Canada and was racking my brain for ideas to blog about.  I felt the ‘social media’ topics were saturated, that Infographics were over done, and SEO was too advanced and boring to write about. I was stuck, so I opened up my iTunes to get some music pumping with hopes of being inspired.  And then it occurred to me. Here is a detailed list of over 600 song titles. I could easily play around with them to help me generate ideas for a post.  It turned out to be a little fun, but more so hilarious.

Some titles I came up with:

1. RESPECT – I want business owners to know that they need to make their brand “Irreplaceable” and to treat their customers with “R-E-S-P-E-C-T.”

2. As a small business owner, you know better than most of the Hard Times that have befallen our economy, but you also know that you can’t wait to go Somewhere over the Rainbow. So, hit the blogosphere with your best shot and show others what you can do. Why not take a song and apply it to your business? Theme a post about a sale with a catchy song time – Fallin’ prices? Get low, low, low with our prices?

3. Building an Empire?  Of course you are, if you are a business owner.  So what’s your state of mind?  Is it an Empire state of mind?

4.  Don’t be a yesterday man.  Think forward, don’t look back.

5.  Before you know it, you’ll be saying OMG!

While some of these slogans sound a bit corny, I know, your efforts are really to be remembered more than anything. In addition to using music for sales, you can also use it to help you define your brand. One famous car company is “Like a Rock.” You can be defined by the opportunity for your customers to “Lean on me” or let them know that as a customer, “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Even if you aren’t selling a “Little Red Corvette” I would be willing to bet that songs can reach your customers.

When searching your playlist, consider your target demographic. Do you want to reach history buffs with “Happy Days Are here Again?” or empower females with “Beautiful” or “9 to 5?” Do you want to reach a rural demographic with a song like “Down Home?” or an urban demographic with a bit of “I’m the Greatest?” Whether you are trying to reach a “Sharp Dressed Man” or a “Country Boy”, your playlist is a great place to look for targeted marketing ideas.

Stop looking at other blogs in envy and look at the possibilities right in front you!  Now turn on some tunes and get typing.

What other ideas can you think of?
